Dark chocolate & peanut butter bliss balls
GF, DF
Looking for a healthy little snack that’s quick, delicious, and kid-approved? These Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Bliss Balls are no-bake, fun for little hands to help roll, and packed with creamy peanut butter and chunks of good quality dark chocolate. The perfect guilt-free treat for lunchboxes, afternoon cravings, or a quick energy boost!
I love keeping wholesome snacks like these on hand for busy days. With a toddler who’s always reaching for something to nibble on, it’s fantastic to have a healthy option ready whenever hunger strikes—or for a mess-free treat during a quick supermarket trip.
This recipe isn’t just for kids, either—it's equally perfect for adults! They make a nourishing snack to pop into your partner’s lunchbox or enjoy between throwing loads of washing in the machine!
Store-bought bliss balls can be surprisingly expensive, but these homemade ones cost roughly $0.37 per ball using Australian ingredients. By comparison, similar raw balls from Health Lab are $12.75 for five, which works out to $2.55 per ball—and often contain added sugars and preservatives.
This recipe is not only budget-friendly but also fun to make, especially when little ones want to help. Embrace the mess, get hands-on in the kitchen, and make some wonderful memories along the way!
What's in this recipe?
Dark chocolate & peanut butter bliss balls
Oats (gf)
These make up the bulk of the bliss balls, providing plenty of fibre for digestive health and sustained energy. Be sure to use gluten-free oats to keep the recipe suitable for everyone.
Peanut butter
I always go for a good quality, natural peanut butter without added nasties. It’s rich in protein, helps keep you full, and gives the balls that irresistible creamy flavour.
Maple syrup
Adds natural sweetness without refined sugar. You can also swap it for honey if you prefer.
Chia seeds
These help the balls stick together while boosting nutrient content. They’re great for satiety, making these little snacks extra filling for kids (and adults too!).
Vanilla extract
Always use pure, natural vanilla extract for that delicious, warming flavour — it really makes a difference!
Cinnamon
Adds a subtle, comforting spice that enhances the overall flavour. Double the amount if you love it as much as I do!
Dark chocolate
I recommend at least 70% cocoa for a rich, indulgent taste. You can also use milk chocolate if preferred. Chunks (rather than chips) distribute more chocolate evenly and avoid extra additives.
Salt
Just a pinch to balance sweetness and bring out all the flavours beautifully.

Ingredients
- 1 cup (100g) rolled oats (GF)
- 1/2 cup (125g) natural peanut butter
- 2 Tbsp (30g) maple syrup
- 1 Tbsp (10g) chia seeds
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (45g) dark chocolate (roughly chopped)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Place the oats in a kitchen blender (I use a Nutribullet) and pulse for about 10 seconds — you want them roughly ground, leaving a few small pieces for texture.
- Transfer the oats to a medium bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Stir in 1 Tbsp of water and mix well with a spatula until a dough forms.
- Roll the mixture into cherry-sized balls (or any size you like!) and place them in the fridge for 30 minutes to set completely. Then, enjoy your blissful little treats!
Notes
Serving suggestion
Enjoy them as a quick, guilt-free snack anytime — perfect for lunchboxes or after-school treats. Pair with a cup of tea or coffee for a little indulgent pick-me-up. Great for picnics, work snacks, or healthy dessert tables.
Storing
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
For longer storage, place in the freezer for up to 1 month — just thaw for 10–15 minutes before eating.
Keep them away from heat to prevent the chocolate from softening too much.
